Glycolic Peel

Of all alpha hydroxy acids, glycolic acid, a natural fruit acid derived from sugar cane, has a profound effect on the skin by reversing the abnormal cellular attachments caused by sun damage and aging.

Glycolic peels help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, combat dry skin, smooth rough texture, lighten dark spots, soften the skin, control active acne, exfoliate razor bumps, may help to reduce keratoses (pre-cancers), and add an over-all boost to your home skin care program. Glycolic acid has also been shown to produce increased amounts of collagen in the skin.

No guarantee can be given as to the outcome. The glycolic solution is applied to the face with a cotton swab for 2 to 10 minutes, depending on skin thickness, age, sensitivity, and use of exfoliating products during home care. For maximum benefit, we recommend a series of 6 treatments, once per week. For sensitive skin, treatment is recommended every other week.

Most patients suffer no adverse side effects whatsoever, though side effects may range from an ultra-mild sting to mild swelling to redness and mild scabbing and peeling — all of which are temporary, lasting a few days at most. These temportay side effects are relieved by avoiding scrubs, medications and glycolic acid for a few days, icing one’s face and applying Decleor Essential Baume and Catherine Atzen’s Integral DNA for hydration and healing.

Clients who are considering glycolic peels should not have any pretreatment with Retin-A, Accutane or alpha-hydroxy acid and should not be pregnant or lactating.
